TYYZ and it's lighting divison Lumolar were founded in 2005 and are based in Toronto. We are a young international multidiciplinary firm that designs buildings, furniture and industrial products. The firm is a partnership of Catherine Hsueh Mei Lin and Mark Tholen. We have a strong philosophy in designing and making products in traditional ways with innovative and environmentally conscious materials to create products that are well built and of simple timeless design. We believe in products at any scale that have an esthetic appeal to be appreciated by generations to come and not to be discarded after a single use. We recently branched into medical equipment design and have designed and are manufacturing a medical cart for the Toronto Firm Vivosonic. Lumolar's LED Soft Shell Light series "little dipper"/"baby fish tide" were unveiled in the spring of 2008 as part of the International Furniture Fair - Passagen 2008 in Cologne, Germany. Unsere Gestaltungsphilosophie basiert auf traditioneller Handwerkskunst kombiniert mit innovativen umweltverträglichen Materialien, um Produkte herzustellen die schlicht, modern und von hoher Qualität sind. TYYZ Gründer Catherine Hsueh Mei Lin, B. Arch, MRAIC und Mark Tholen, BEDS, M. Arch, AK NW, MRAIC, BCIN sind Architekten die weltweit an ausgezeichneten, vielseitigen Projekten beteiligt sind und auf Erfahrungen im Bereich der Architektur, des Industriedesigns und im Lehrberuf in Asien, Europa, USA und Kanada zurückgreifen. Die neue "Weichlicht" Serie "Little Dipper", "Baby Fish Tide" wurde erstmalig im Rahmen der Kölner Möbelmesse auf den Passagen 2008 vorgestellt. Visit us at the Green Living Show, Toronto in April in the "GreenOvations" area and the LFI New York Show in May, at Booth 1775.
Lumolar was awarded an Industrial Design "Award of Excellence" at the Design Exchange in November 2008 for the lighting product "Baby Fish Tide" Three lights were on display at the DX until March 2009 as part of the DX Award Exhibit. Earlier this year Lumolar's Soft shell lights "baby fish tide" won "Best of Canada 2008" in the Product Design Category Three pendant lights were on display at the Design Exchange in October as part of the Best of Canada display. Lumolar was a sponsor of the BAR AZURE at the IIDEX show 2008 by providing a large cluster of lights above the champagne bar catered by Terroni.
